Excellent food, good service, the farm shop side was a bit disappointing as its more a gift shop but we did take home scones which were lovely, it's also on the hirsel estate which would help if it was mentioned for tourists/non local people

TITLE: A GASTRONOMIC ESCAPADE AT THE HIRSEL ESTATE As I ventured into the quaint realm of The Homestead Café, little did I know I was about to embark on a culinary odyssey that would tickle my taste buds and charm my senses. THE PROLOGUE: THE HOT CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE ODYSSEY The hot chocolate fudge cake was not just a dessert; it was a celestial experience, a symphony of sweetness that made the angels sing. Paired with crunchie ice-cream, it was like a frosty hug from a yeti – rare, unexpected, and utterly delightful! THE PLOT THICKENS: A BOLLYWOOD CHAI TEA INTERLUDE Amidst the culinary escapade, I sipped on a Bollywood Chai tea, an aromatic brew that danced on my palate like a Bollywood star on the silver screen. It was a spicy plot twist in my afternoon tale, a cup of serendipity steeped in exotic spices and warmth. THE SETTING: PRISTINE AND SPOTLESS The service shone brighter than the polished cutlery, and the tables were so clean, I could see my reflection grinning back at me. I chose the great indoors over the alfresco allure, basking in the cozy embrace of the café's charming interior. THE ADVENTURE: CRISP FLAVORS GALORE Post-cake, I sauntered into the farm shop, where the crisps whispered tales of the wild. Wild duck with plum sauce, grouse with Whinberry, wild boar with apple – each bag was like a crunchy chapter of an epicurean novel. THE FINALE: THE VANILLA FUDGE ENCORE And then, the vanilla fudge! Oh, what a curtain call! It was as if vanilla pods had been kissed by sugar fairies, creating a confection so divine, it should have its own shrine. THE MARKETPLACE: A SCOTTISH TWEED AFFAIR The farm shop, a treasure trove of novelties, boasted Scottish tweed bags that whispered tales of highlands and lochs. Amidst the rustic charm, the meats on display were like a cast of characters, each with a story to tell – from the robust wild boar to the dapper duck. THE SOUVENIR HUNT: MAGNET QUEST WITH A HEART The cashier, a kind soul and a navigator of novelties, guided me through the maze of memorabilia to find the perfect fridge magnet. A memento for the family, it was a small token that held the essence of a good afternoon spent. THE VERDICT: A STANDING OVATION From the first spoonful of cake to the last crumb of fudge, the service never missed a beat. It was a standing ovation for the taste buds, a round of applause from the stomach, and a good afternoon indeed. With every sip of chai, every glance at the tweed, and every choice of meat, The Homestead Café & Farm Shop proved to be a stage for an unforgettable performance of hospitality and charm. Bravo!

Nice cafe. We had coffee and tray bakes. Was space for a pram. Quite a lot of tables plus an outside area. Farm shop was decent normal farm shop items in it plus a selection of frozen meats. There were other shops there but we didn’t go in. Also a sign up saying pay and display for parking, we didn’t as the parking area isn’t well maintained.

Only £2.50 to park up, the kids enjoyed the play area, we had a walk around the lake, but tricky in parts, had a coffee and picnic, not much less to do unless you fancy a much longer walk round the estate or river, good of the family to open up their estate though. We didn't eat in the cafe but the food looked very good. Nice couple of hours
